Lesson: Pinch Pots
Grades 9th- 12th, Five-45 minute periods

Goals/Daily Performance Objectives
Understand ceramics vocabulary describing the process of constructing a pinch pot.
Identify the differences and construct and organic and inorganic pinch pot.
Utilize tools to perfect the surface of a pinch pot.
Discuss how working with clay media combines personal expression with form and function.
Conceptualize and incise a design into the surface of the clay.
Prior Knowledge
Knowledge of the Elements of Art.
Understand the use of (and apply) a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas.

- Discuss objectives with students: Students will be able to understand ceramics vocabulary describing the process of constructing a pinch pot. Students will be able to identify the differences and construct and organic and inorganic pinch pot. Students will be able to utilize tools to perfect the surface of a pinch pot and conceptualize and incise a design into the surface of the clay.

- Discuss the stages of clay and the drying process.
- Prepare pinch pots for incising.
- Sketch and incise a design on the surface of the clay.
- Demonstrate, review and construct an organic pinch pot.
