Unit Overview
Lesson One- Supernovae. In this lesson students will learn about the cycle of a supernova, participate in a physical demonstration of the cycle and create an optical work of art depicting the movement of the explosion. Students will use wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques using art elements such as the repetition of line and form.
Lesson Two- The Universe. In this lesson students will explore mulit-cultural perspectives from peers in the classroom. Students will have discussions and create their own 'alien' world based on facts and imagined cultures/customs. Students will use wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques coupled with crayon resists while applying their knowledge learned on foreground, middle ground and background.
Lesson Three- Nebula. In this lesson students will understand the concept of color and the reflection/absorption of light on objects. Students will create a 4-square piece of artwork that depicts a nebula created using chalk pastels and four different color families.
